Dr.’s Remedy Summer 2011 Nail Polish Collection

Dr.'s Remedy is a healthier alternative to commercial nail polish. Their enriched nail polishes are perfect for those who suffer from nail fungus, brittle, discolored nails, have an allergy to chemicals in commercial nail polish or are pregnant. Dr.'s REMEDY is developed by doctors and free from toxins found in most commercial nail polish (DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde).

Dr's Remedy Enriched nail polish contains tea tree oil, vitamins and wheat protein to nourish and protect.

My favorite thing about these nail lacquers has to be the brush. It is so smooth and makes for the easiest application. I can see myself saving these applicators to use in place of the ones that come with my OPI or Essie polish. Dr.’s Remedy nail polishes dry much quicker than normal polishes. The lasting power is also pretty good. I wore Tranquil for 5 days on my hands without chip (and I'm pretty rough with my hands).

Nvey Eco Eye Shadow and Lip Lustre Review and Swatches

Nvey Eco is a certified organic makeup brand. As I've always been a huge fan of Nvey, I was really excited to have the opportunity to review some of their products. I bought their Erase Corrector a few years back and it remains the only concealer I've ever hit pan with. It conceals amazingly, covering blemishes and even bruises. But on to the review at hand...
Nvey Organic Eye Shadows without the pot. (Full size single compact costs $25.00/each)

Nvey Organic Eye Shadows in Pale Silver White (161),  and Espresso (155), Copper Bronze (158)

Finely milled with an extra soft base of corn silk and jojoba oil, these Nvey eyeshadows also contain chamomile, vitamins A, C, and E to make for a smooth and soft formula that is excellent for dry and sensitive skin. The eyeshadows are vibrant, very smooth, definitely not dry or cakey, and amazingly pigmented. The lasting power without primer is average for a high end shadow but easily lasts 10+ hours with a primer.

The pictures on the website really don't match the actual color very well, so be careful if choosing your shadows online. Copper Bronze has a slight olive tone in real life.

I adore these eye shadows, but find that at $25 a piece, the eye shadow singles are very expensive. If you want to try Nvey shadows, I would recommend getting the Eye Shadow Palette, which contains 5 eye shadows for just $63. It's still not cheap, but significantly less costly.

Nvey Hydrating Lip Lustre in Temptress ($25)

The hydrating lip lustre is a dual purpose lip color and moisturizer, enriched with organic elements and orange essential oil. It is non-drying and long-lasting. I used to own this lip lustre in the exact shade (Temptress), but it seems the formulation or coloring has changed a bit. I quite like the change because the color seems really vibrant.

Nvey has also generously offered my readers and followers a discount code for 15% off any full-size product or tools: HMR15 (expires September 22, 2011).

boscia Restorative Day and Night Moisture Creams

boscia is a comprehensive line of skincare that contains products completely free of parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, phthalates, GMOs and triclosan. Their Restorative Day and Night Moisture Creams help diminish the appearance of uneven skin tone, dullness, and fine lines while fortifying the complexion against future damage.

Restorative Day Moisture Cream SPF 15 and Restorative Night Moisture Cream ($48 each)

The boscia moisturizing creams are extremely hydrating and non-greasy. I find the night cream extra moisturizing. Most importantly, the creams did not cause me to break out, which is what a lot of hydrating moisturizers tend to do. The day cream contains SPF 15, which makes it an excellent base for my makeup. After two weeks of usage, I have noticed a brightening effect on the face, but no signs of diminishing discoloration or fine lines yet.

The packaging is gorgeous. You can very easily and sanitarily control how much cream you get out by gently pushing down on the top. The downfall is that you cannot tell how much is left. You must also be careful to scrape every bit of cream off or it will dry in the hole. It has happened to me twice with the day cream. I was left with an almost grainy texture when I accidentally picked up a bit of dry cream left on top.

Push down gently and the moisturizer comes up.

You can find boscia products at most Sephora locations or at bosciaskincare.com.

Now Available Online: Sigma Brush Cup Holder

The Sigma Brush Cup Holders are finally available for individual purchase. Retailing at $20 on the Sigma website, these holders only come in black right now.

Since I already have a Make Me Classy set in black, I am waiting on the release of the other colors (which I assume will happen). This release is a total miss for anyone wanting the aqua, coral or purple holder.

Privé Concept Vert

Privé Concept Vert Rejuvenating Pure Shampoo and Rejuvenating Pure Conditioner

A full size shampoo and conditioner set and a travel set.

Privé Concept Vert Volumizing Forth

These sulfate- and paraben-free Privé products gently cleanse hair with antioxidants, preserve color and strengthen hair, which is great for my dyed and weak hair. I find myself only using a bit of shampoo every time because it foams up a lot. I have been using both the Privé shampoo and conditioner a lot lately and my hair honestly feels softer and maybe even a tad bit smoother. On the downside, environmentally-friendly products are a bit more expensive than your regular drugstore ones. I am still trying to justify the big price tag for the Privé shampoo and conditioner.

The Volumizing Froth, on the other hand, is a completely different story. I use only a dime size amount, rub it in my hand and watch it foam up to a lovely froth. I always apply it on second-day hair and it works wonders. My hair feels light and voluminous while the frizz is significantly reduced. If there is one product you are going to pick up from Privé, let me recommend the Concept Vert Volumizing Froth.

Privè’s Concept Vert Rejuvenating Pure Shampoo, Rejuvenating Pure Conditioner and Volumizing Froth retail for $28, $30, and $24, respectively. Privè products are available at elite salons and spas nationwide. For information on purchase locations, visit priveproducts.com.

Sigma's Bunny Collection: Vegan Brushes (December 5th 2011)

Buying Sigma Brushes? Use the newest Sigma Coupon Codes and Special Offers!
Sigma's new Bunny Collection, featuring 100% vegan makeup brushes, is set to launch around October.

Sneak peak of a possible vegan kabuki brush. Or perhaps it is a part of the World Cities Collection.

Sigma already has a collection of fully vegan synthetic brushes: Sigmax Synthetic Face Kit. I find their synthetic brushes to be the best brushes they produce. They are softer, hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, and function just as well as the natural bristle brushes. Frankly, I wouldn't mind if Sigma decided to replace their entire line with synthetic brushes.

What are they brewing in the back room at Sigma? Thoughts?

Illamasqua Excite Powder Blush and Sonnet Lipstick Swatches

Illamasqua Powder Blush in Excite ($23)

Excite looks scary in the pan, but it applies quite well.

This blush is extremely pigmented, so apply it with a light hand and blend it out.

Sonnet is a gorgeous blush. Don't let the color in the pan scare you. Applied with a light hand, it can work its way into your daily makeup. You will not look like a carrot, I promise. The blush is actually a little less orange and more pink than I had anticipated. That isn't to say Sonnet isn't orange. It is a bright, bold orange blush. It is very well pigmented, so apply very lightly and blend away. Just a graze of this product will give you more color than your regular blusher.

Illamasqua Lipstick in Sonnet

Sonnet is a pale, nude peach.

Swatches beautifully, but pretty unforgiving on the lips.

Sonnet will emphasize lines and dryness.

Illamasqua Sonnet Lipstick topped with Lancome Juicy Tubes in Touched by Light

I am normally a big fan of Illamasqua lipsticks, but this shade did not work for my unkempt lips. It has a matte finish and reminds me of Revlon's nude attitude, except Sonnet is peachier, less orange, and applies smoother. Although this lipstick is not for me, I have seen it look very good on others, like on Sophia from Makeup Blogette.

Illamasqua is a UK company and sold in the US exclusively at select Sephora locations and on Sephora.com. You can visit the Illamasqua website to locate stores in your country or to make an online order.

MAC Semi-Precious Crystal Pink Mineralize Skinfinish

MAC Semi-Precious Crystal Pink Mineralize Skinfinish ($28 for 0.22 oz)

Glittery, sheen and almost cool-toned.

Swatches of the outer circle, the inner circle, and a combination of both

Like most MAC MSF, Crystal Pink is quite glittery. The fallout on this one is a little worse than usual though. Crystal Pink is nice in that it can serve as a rosy highlighter and a shimmery bronzer or blusher. I think MAC by Candlelight is a much prettier highlighter.

Review Summary: MAC Semi-Precious Crystal Pink Mineralize Skinfinish
Pigmentation/Texture: Great pigmentation and smooth texture. 5/5
Lasting Power: I'm not a fan of the fallout after a few hours. I blame the glitter. 4/5
Packaging: The usual packaging. The marble cut looks good, but is nothing new now. 4/5
Value: I am normally okay with the price of MAC's MSF, but the product was reduced by a lot. 3.5/5
Overall: Smooth application, but does not stand out among all the MSF. B

Becca Cosmetics Cream Blush, Eye Tint, Eye Pencil

The philosophy behind Becca Cosmetics is to create a natural, flawless look.

This blusher is extremely creamy, moist and blendable. It creates a very dewy finish that is perfect for the summer. I apply this with my fingertips. It goes on smoothly and gives a natural color and glow to my cheeks.

Review Summary: Becca Creme Blush in Terracotta
Pigmentation/Texture: Good pigmentation, buildable and creamy. 5/5
Lasting Power: Lasts up to 4 hours. Not bad for a soft cream blush. 4.5/5
Packaging: Compact, with luxurious metal casing on top and a full mirror inside to boost. The best packaged blusher I own. 5/5
Value: Great quality, but $30 for 0.1 oz creme blush is still pricey (MAC cremeblend blush is 0.19 oz). 4/5
Overall: Anyone who enjoys cream blushers will love this. A

This combination liner and illuminator glides on easily to line, define, brighten, and contour the eyes.

Review Summary: Becca Line + Illuminate Pencil in Ibiza
Pigmentation/Texture: Velvety soft texture and well pigmented. Because it is soft, you have to be careful or it can break off - even when sharpening. And you must sharpen for a precisely thin line. 4/5
Lasting Power: The illuminator lasts fine, but the pencil tends to crease throughout the day. 4/5
Packaging: I usually don't like duo-ended products, but it works in this case. 5/5
Value: For an illuminator and eyeliner, it is well worth the price. 5/5
Overall: Great for your travel bag. A

This eye tint applies as a cream but sets to a powder. This long-lasting, water-resistant, crease-resistant tint is easy to apply and offers adjustable levels of sheer to high pigment color. It can be layered under powder eye colors and loose pigments for added intensity.

Review Summary: Becca Eye Tint in Vicuna
Pigmentation/Texture: Sheer, but buildable and streak-free. 4/5
Lasting Power: It is waterproof and stays put all day, even in the heat. I definitely recommend the Becca Eye Tint for the beach. 5/5
Packaging: Beautiful and expensive packaging, but I don't care much for tube eye products. 4/5
Value: Unless you're intent on the cream to powder finish, Becca eyeshadows are a better deal. 4/5
Overall: Buy it for its long lasting properties. A-

Line+Illuminate Pencil in Ibiza, Cream Blush in Terracotta, Eye Tint in Vulcana

Overall, I do not have anything bad to say about Becca Cosmetics. Their products are well pigmented, long lasting, smooth and very easy to work with. The packaging is very sturdy and probably one of the best that I have ever seen. Everything appears to be well thought out and there is obvious effort put into the design of every item. Everything about Becca Cosmetics screams luxury - and prices are not bad for a higher end brand. If you are going to splurge on cosmetics, Becca is the way to go.

MAC vs. Sigma Brushes Dupe Guide (New Numbering System)

Sigma-MAC brush dupe guide updated for May 2015. Also see Sigma Coupons 2015.

Sometimes makeup tutorials will refer to specific brushes by numbers, which can get confusing if you do not own that specific brand. This guide should be able to clear things up a little if you want to go from MAC to Sigma or Sigma to MAC. Not all brushes have exact dupes and some MAC brushes are limited edition.

Kameria Facial Masks and Pure Milk Whitening Cleansing Oil

Skincare and cosmetics provided by iMomoko. BB Creams are covered in a dedicated post.

Kameria Baby Face Moisturizing Mask and Whitening Mask ($2.50)

I will only review the moisturizing mask as I have not tried the other one. I do not believe in whitening masks and even if I did, I probably won't be able to see a difference with only one mask. I am asking my mother to test the whitening mask and I will try to update you.

Review Summary: Kameria Baby Face Moisturizing Mask
Product: It feels cool on the face and smells amazing. 4.5/5
Effectiveness: Definitely moisturizing, but nothing extra. 4/5
Packaging: Very pretty packaging and easy to open. 5/5
Value: Standard price for facial masks, but you can get similar ones for a little less. 4/5
Overall: Good moisturizing and revitalizing mask. A-

Kameria Pure Milk Whitening Cleansing Oil (30 mL)

You guys know I avoid whitening products, but I really dig this cleansing oil. It removes makeup without being greasy or drying. I know a lot of of people (like my mother) love whitening products so it is probably a high selling point. When in contact with water, this cleansing oil becomes something like a cleansing milk.

Review Summary: Kameria Whitening Milk Cleansing Oil
Product: It smells good and leaves my skin feeling refreshed. 4.5/5
Effectiveness: It cleans makeup fairly well, but not spotlessly clean. I'm unsure of the whitening effects. 4/5
Packaging: Love the packaging! Once uncapped, there is a plastic applicator to prevent spillage. 5/5
Value: A 100 mL bottle is just $15 and a little goes a long way. 5/5
Overall: Cleans makeup well, leaves skin refreshed and non-greasy. A

I am so glad I had the chance to try out the Kameria brand courtesy of iMomoko. If you follow me on Twitter, you'll know that I somehow used up my plethora of facial masks a while back. I am going to purchase a few different ones from Imomoko and let you know which ones are my favorite.

If you have never shopped at iMomoko, I recommend you explore their website. iMomoko ships internationally and stocks a lot of Asian skincare and cosmetics products that you will not be able to find in America or Europe. They stock many Japanese and Korean skincare products and even Taiwanese brands like My Beauty Diary. My one complaint with their website is that there does not seem to be an option to view more than 18 items per page. The selection is vast so I want to browse through more quickly.

Before I go on my crazy shopping spree and empty my wallet, let me know if there are any products/brands that I should check out. I will duly explore and report back.

Glamour Doll Eyes Eyeshadow Swatches and Review

Glamour Doll Eyes Eyeshadows ($6.00 each)

Brown Eyed Girl, Dazzle Me, Doll House, Flashdance, Graves in May, Love Affair

All pigments are safe for use on lips. Glamour Doll Eyes sells both unblended pigments (simply bought and repackaged) and eyeshadows they make themselves. For the purpose of this review, I chose only eyeshadows that were formulated by Glamour Doll Eyes. Please note that GDE does clearly state what they make and what they don't. (I wanted to clarify since there was a huge scandal in the past in which Lime Crime Makeup tried to pass manufacturer pigments off as their original product.)

Shipping is free but there is a minimum of $10 to order from them at all. I really don't like that policy. I think they can charge one or two bucks for shipping and start free shipping at $10.

Review Summary: Glamour Doll Eyes Eyeshadows
Pigmentation: Pigmentation is great for the most part. Dazzle Me is less pigmented than the other shadows, but still quite good. 4/5
Lasting Power: Although these have been formulated and blended by the company, I think they are still lacking in their adhesive capabilities. They come off easily with gentle rubbing. Remember to use a base or primer if you want them to survive the heat. 3/5
Packaging: These are packaged in generic plastic jars with a cute Glamour Doll Eyes logo sticker on top. That is standard for loose shadows, but there is no real originality here. 3/5
Value: I hate their pricing. A full sized jar costs $6.00 and you can get 2-2.5 grams without the sifter and 1.5-2 grams of product with the sifter. The sample jar costs $2.50 and gives you 1 gram of product. I think I would just rather get a sample jar every time. The fact that there is such a range in the amount of product you get bothers me. 3/5
Overall: Decent eyeshadows, but not overly impressive or different. B-

NARS Summer Collection 2011: New York and San Francisco

A private set previously offered only to Bay Area residents and available exclusively on Narscosmetics.com. This limited-edition set was created with shades designed to complement and reflect the women of San Francisco. Each shade is available only in this very special set:

Duo Eyeshadow in Haight Asbury - a metallic green paired with dove gray.
Eyeshadow in Angel Island - a sheer lilac shimmer.
Blush in Golden Gate Bridge - a sheer, shimmering 24k gold.
Nail Polish in Alamo - a subtle, sexy, beautiful bronze pink.

A private set previously offered only to New York area residents and available exclusively on Narscosmetics.com. This special set was created with shades to complement and reflect the modern women of New York City. This set includes some shades available only in this special set:

Duo Eyeshadow Uptown Girl - limited edition
Nail Polish in SoHo - limited edition
Eyeshadow in New York - permanent
Blush in Orgasm - permanent

I think I am going to pass these sets. They released the same exact sets two years ago. You think they'd change it a little. The only items I like are from their permanent collection - so there is no rush to pour money into these cheaper, yet still pricey limited edition sets. If you are looking into buying these, you should do it as soon as possible as they are only being sold for a week.
