Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove Released

The Sigma Spa™ Brush Cleaning Glove, released by Sigma on their website today, comes in four lovely colors and was specially designed as a quick, easy and effective method to deep clean makeup brushes. This dual-sided glove offers a variety of necessary textures and surfaces for removing all makeup from brushes while using a small amount of brush cleaning solution.

This idea is really interesting and I can't wait to see how it plays out. At $39 a piece, this brush cleaning device isn't cheap, so I know readers will want to read up on the product before buying. Expect an in-depth review soon!

Sigma Spa Solutions Kit Review: Cleansing & Polishing Tools Attachments

The Sigma Spa Solution Kit contains three attachment heads for the Sigma Cleansing & Polishing Tool: Extra soft Brush, Massager and Exfoliator. You can also purchase the Spa Solutions Complete Kit ($59), which combines the Spa Solution Kit ($29) with the Cleansing and Polishing Tool with its three original soft, medium and firm brush heads ($39). If you don't already own the original tool, I would recommend getting the complete kit as it is $9 cheaper and the new brushes make it totally worth the price.

Now, you know my original complaint with the Sigma Cleansing & Polishing Tool is that even the softest brush head was a little too tough for everyday use. The Spa Solution Kit contains an Extra-Soft Brush recommended for gentle cleansing of extra-sensitive skin. (It is a silicone-based brush.) I definitely agree that this new brush will be good for even the most sensitive of skin. Even when I break out, I can safely use it all over my face without inducing any pain. 

Sephora and Urban Outfitters Haul: Clarisonic, BDG

I promise to get back to a regular posting schedule soon. For now, I'll leave you with a quick update on my recent purchases. I know I'm on a makeup ban, but my clothes have been raggedy and my skin has been misbehaving, so I thought I'd have a little Winter treat. (And excuse the poor lighting but my town hasn't seen the sun in days.)

I ordered from Sephora the Clarisonic Mia in pink. They have just released a new one, but I decided that I don't really need to pay $30 extra for an additional speed option that I probably wouldn't use. I've only used the Mia for two days so I can't say I see much of a difference, but I like it already. The size is very convenient for travel. The vibration is a little louder than expected, but I love the feel of it on my skin.

Included with my purchase were three sample packets and two deluxe samples.

What really sold me onto ordering on the Sephora website were the deals they offered. I don't care much for the three sample packets that they always included with my order, but this time around they also offered two deluxe samples. I picked a Bobbi Brown eye cream and the Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I ran out of the Shadow Insurance last month and had no intention of picking up a new one any time soon, so it's nice to be able to carry a small one with me in my bag. I have never tried the Bobbi Brown eye cream before, but I'm looking forward to it. It appears very thick and creamy - plus there seems to be a lot of it!

Sigma Beauty Cleansing and Polishing Tool ($39 at sigmabeauty.com)

Pros:

• The Sigma Beauty Tool is much more affordable than its counterpart electronic cleansing and exfoliation devices.
• The Sigma Beauty Tool has two different rotation speeds so you do not have to use it in circular motion because it does the rotating for you.
• It comes with three exchangeable brush heads (with replacement heads on the way).
• It is water-resistant; can be used carefully in the shower.
• It removes makeup and cleans wonderfully. I usually use makeup remover, cleanse thoroughly with face wash, and finally use toner to remove the final bits. Now I use makeup remover and cleanse with the Sigma Cleansing and Polish Tool. By the time I get to toner, there is nothing left for the toner to remove.
• You can easily exfoliate or get into the crevice of the nose or any area. The exfoliation reduces dry patches and brightens the skin! My foundation applies a lot smoother after exfoliating with this tool.
• The gorgeous tool comes with a very cute case that makes it convenient for traveling.
• The detachable brushes are very easy to remove and clean.

Don't forget to get two AA batteries for it.

Cons:

• I wish the rotation came in three speeds, or at least one lower speed. I have sensitive skin so I like to use a very, very low speed for optimal control. I end up just using the low speed for a bit and then I go manual. High speed is too much for my face - but I am going to use it for my neck and body.
• I think the softest brush could still be a little softer for those of us with super sensitive skin. I know they can't cater to every single person, but it would be fantastic if Sigma came out with more brush options. I would definitely buy those! Maybe a super soft brush for baby-sensitive skin or even a super tough brush for those who want to use it to exfoliate rougher parts.
• Depending on your facial cleanser, a bit of splashing may occur when the tool is set on high speed.
• At $39, it is a lot cheaper than anything of its kind, but the Sigma Beauty Tool may still be considered expensive by those who cannot utilize all of the brush heads or rotation speeds. If Sigma had a cheaper set option (perhaps with the choice of just one brush head), they might be able to reach a larger audience.

Overall: If you want the Clarisonic or something similar, consider getting the Sigma Cleansing and Polishing Tool instead. It is much more affordable, has three exchangeable brush heads instead of one, and has two speeds of rotation. If you have very sensitive skin, a tight budget, and are only looking for a bit of cleansing, you might want to reconsider your options. At $39, this is not expensive for all of its capabilities. In fact, the Sigma Tool is fantastic if you are into the electronic rotation. However, if your skin gets easily irritated by scrubbing or if you prefer manual scrubbing, you can just use a normal exfoliating brush. The Sigma Tool is perfect for people without sensitive skin because they'll get to utilize all the functions. For my skin, I have to stick to the soft brush with minimal use of the low speed rotation. I can occasionally use the medium brush, but the rough brush and high speed are not really an option. Although I don't get to use all of the brushes or rotation speeds in the set, I have been using this tool every time I wash my face.

Comparison Note: Please understand that the optimum benefit of the Clarisonic, Pretika, Cleansing and Polishing Tool, and any similar device is to deep clean thoroughly and perhaps gently exfoliate. The cleaning and exfoliating processes are what makes your skin more vibrant, absorb moisture, fight acne, etc. Clarisonic claims it's Sonic technology does it best, but figure out for yourself what works for you. If you wash your face very well, exfoliate regularly with whatever product you like, and everything works, stick to your regimen! You don't need these tools unless you really want them or find that they improve or supplement your routine.

Frownies Review

Frownies are simple: You peel them off and put them on your face where you have expression lines. You basically glue cardboard onto your face to keep yourself from making expressions - thus eliminating expression lines.

The first time I tried Frownies, I didn't do it right. Instead of removing expression lines, the edge of my Frownies left a mark on my face. (Bound to happen when sleep with cardboard glued to your face.) Those marks quickly went away within the day, but that got me thinking: What about the actual effect of Frownies? They should be the same. They keep you from furrowing your eyebrows and making expressions that will scrunch your skin together so your skin stays flat and straight. Just like how the marks on your face go away, the effects of Frownies probably will too.

I read this comment on Purse Forum: "Your lines seem gone when the Frownie first gets taken off in the morning. The lines return during the day. Over weeks and months I think the muscles relax and/or you learn not "clench" them when you focus your eyes or squint."

Of course I can't confirm that because I never actually got my Frownies to work. It is such a hassle to put it on correctly and to peel it off. Taking if off can be so painful sometimes. I can't deal with these things long enough to see any real effect.

Bottom line: not worth it.
