Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove Review & Dupe

The Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove is one of Sigma's latest inventions designed to effectively clean makeup brushes. This patent-pending, dual-sided glove offers a variety of necessary textures and surfaces for removing makeup from brushes.

While I like the idea of the Sigma Brush Cleaning Glove, I am surprised by the price. A Spa Brush Cleaning Glove retails for $39 before shipping. Even with the 10% discount code, the cleaning glove sells for more than $35! Unless you're really big on makeup brushes, requiring a lot of usage and cleansing daily, this cleaner might not live up to all of your expectations.

Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove Review

The Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove is fairly large, fully capable of washing even the largest body brush. The different textures definitely helps scrub away a lot of makeup. The product reduces the need to use a lot of makeup remover or brush cleansing solution. It probably reduced the scrubbing time by 25% for me. So it is very effective - but the price is still a bit too high to justify the large silicone-like oven glove-esque cleanser.

The brush kit also came with an instructional guide on how to effectively use the Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove to clean your makeup brushes:
1. WASH - Add a small amount of cleaning solution and water to glove and swirl brush on ‘Wash’ texture to begin deep cleaning the brush(es).
2. RINSE - Place brush under running water and sweep brush back and forth on the ‘Rinse’ texture of the glove to remove makeup residue & soap.
3. REFINE - Swirl brush on the ‘Refine’ texture of the glove for an added deep cleaning
4. RINSE - Place brush under running water & sweep brush back and forth on the ‘Rinse’ texture for a final rinse.
5. SHAPE - Reshape brush bristles by placing brush head on the ‘Shape’ section of the glove while squeezing with your hand to remove excess water.

Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove Review Summary
Review by Handmade Reviews on May 5, 2013
Effectiveness: The Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove works as it should. It removes makeup from brushes quickly and reduces both brush cleanser and time. 4/5
Usability: The Cleaning Glove is simple to use and clean and comes with very useful instructional guide. 4/5
Packaging: The packaging is simple, light and efficient. 4/5
Value: The price is the downfall of this product. At $39, this glove is overpriced despite its effectiveness. Traditional methods of cleaning or other household tools may be used in its place. 2/5
Overall, the Sigma Spa Brush Cleaning Glove is effective, but overpriced 3/5

For those looking for alternatives to Sigma's Spa Brush Cleaning Glove, some readers have suggested finding a textured silicone oven glove! You obviously don't need a glove or device to clean your makeup brushes, but if you want one and can't afford the Sigma Glove, go to a local store to locate a silicone oven glove or textured dish washing glove (or go to Amazon to get one like this). They're not like Sigma's multi-textured product (which is patent-pending) but many readers have reported that silicone oven gloves do work as a brush cleanser. I think any textured, rubbery/silicone scrubber would work to help clean brushes as well, albeit less effective than a product designed with the sole intention of cleaning brushes.

  1. Thank you! There are so many extravagant reviews of this product that I really questioned myself! Like, am I the only one that seriously thinks it looks like a $40 oven mitt! Thank you for your honest review and recommendation. Not one of Sigma's best product, but I'm glad to hear it at least works well

  2. I wanted this so badly when it first came out, but now I think I will only buy it at half the price or if shipping is free at least!

  3. I ordered one myself so I really crossed my fingers and hoped it worked. Glad it did! But yes, it is unfortunate that it costs so much.

  4. You can always wait for Sigma's Black Friday 2013. Maybe they'll have a good discount this year. I'm still hoping that prices will drop for some Sigma products.

  5. I thought all the same things as you! Way too much for what it is. I currently use a bar of dove soap and that does the trick. I have been thinking of going for the oven mit.

  6. I've also heard someone mention that a good dish washing glove will also work. Whatever works for you, right? :)

  8. I bought a silicone oven mitt at Bed Bath and Beyond for $9. It looks very much like this. Not quite as many different sets of textures but it has about 3 different sets of bumps and ridges. I've used it several times now on my brushes and it works beautifully. I don't buy into Sigma's hype about needing so many different little groups of nubbies and ridges. My oven mitt cleaned everything from my big face brushes to my itty bitty eyeliner brushes and everything in between with no damage to the brushes. This is a total ripoff at the price. I buy high end cosmetics and brushes so for me, $40 isn't a lot of money. Even still, this is a little ridiculous. Save the money, try the oven mitt.

  9. Hi Deb,
Thank you for sharing the dupe! I agree that $40 is way too much for something so similar to a silicone oven mitt valued at less than $10. Perhaps Sigma will lower their prices to match the value of its product after seeing so many dupes out there for a quarter of the price.
