Holiday sales used to be a lot more exciting to me. I feel as though they have dwindled down a little these past few years. Whether it is because there have been a lot more sales or because the deals are not that enticing, I'm not sure. It's always great to catch a sale when you were going to make an order anyway, but no sale has made me feel the need to buy something that I wasn't originally going to purchase anyway. But maybe that's a good thing!

Three Tips to Healthier Hair - Plus L'Oreal Free Sample

Did you know that hair is often cited as one of the first things people notice about each other? Maintaining strong, healthy and beautiful hair should be a priority, not an afterthought. I know I can be guilty of hair neglect. My hair has suffered from dyes, from heat, from curls and crimps. I don't always condition when I should, and then I go through periods of over conditioning. I have these bad habits even though I know better.

I've recently gotten a little better with haircare. I deep condition weekly and also use matching shampoo and conditioner so they compliment each other. I've also picked up some great advice from haircare experts about how to improve hair condition.

Here are three easy tips to keep in mind for healthy and beautiful hair:

1. Shampoo your hair twice. Instead of adding one pump of shampoo in your hair right away, use one half pump to scrub and rinse and then do it all over again. This will do better to get all the gunk out of your hair without the need to use more shampoo than necessary.

I was so excited when I saw this package that I immediately instagramed and tweeted it. The packaging was lovely and it included a skincare gift set and a travel kit. 

Even the inside of the box was beautiful! Inside the large kit were the Valia Purifying Wash, Hydrating Creme and Supplements.

I honestly hadn't heard of Valia until Mario approached me about it. I am really glad I looked into the brand because it is absolutely amazing. Valia is inspired by traditional Japanese remedies that focus on holistic healing. I can't wait to add Valia to my skincare regime. Definitely expect a thorough review!

Wayne Goss Makeup Brush Collection Preview & Thoughts

I previously mentioned that Wayne Goss has been developing custom makeup brushes that are very soon to be released for the US, UK and the rest of the world. The brushes seem to have been completed and are awaiting production and release.

The Wayne Goss makeup brush collection will contain 8 brushes, with each brush having multiple functions. His makeup brushes are natural-bristyle, cruelty-free and made in Japan. They are not mass produced at all, which is very rare nowadays. The brushes will be made by a Japanese company called Artisan&Artist, which may or may not be manufactured from Chikuhodo. The most important thing to note is that the brushes will be of limited supply. Because the brushes are handmade in Japan and paid for solely by Wayne Goss, they will be produced in a limited supply until there is a greater demand. Obviously once/if the brushes get sold out, additional ones will be ordered.

Beware of Toxic Heavy Metals in Your Makeup

Is your makeup slowly poisoning you? Heavy metals such as lead, arsenic, mercury, aluminum, cadmium, manganese, and nickel can lead to organ toxicity, neurological problems, and contribute to cancer growth. Heavy metals can be found in a lot of things. In small amounts, they are harmless. They can, however, accumulate if you are using a lot of products with heavy metals or if you use such products daily.

Lead is actually found in most lipsticks

The FDA released a 2012 report that found lead in 400 brands of lipsticks. They considered the amounts negligible since they are controlled and people ingest little of their lipstick. This should be noted for anyone sensitive to lead or are suffering from certain conditions. Surprisingly, the cheaper Wet 'n' Wild Mega Mixers Lip Balm Bahama Mama contains the least lead of the 400 brands while several L'Oréal and Maybelline lipsticks contained the most amounts of lead, up to 7.19 parts per million. So if you're using Maybelline's Color Sensational Pink Petal lipstick, don't try to lick or eat it!

How to stay safe

Do your research. Read the ingredients, investigate the ingredients and buy from brands you are familiar with or are regulated. Note that just because it is unlisted in the ingredient list doesn't mean it is not there. Avoid makeup of unknown origins. Be particularly wary of lipsticks because you can easily accidentally ingest it. Lipsticks dyes from unregulated sources can contain high amounts of lead.

Fake makeup from eBay can be a lot more dangerous than you think. They don't just fake a brand name, they could add abnormally high amounts of heavy metals to imitate the deep pigmentation of more expensive makeup. Stay safe, makeup lovers!

LÄRABAR: Natural, Vegan, Gluten-Free Fruit & Nut Food Bar

The Larabar is a clean, gluten-free, preservative-free vegan food bar.

I don't recommend packaged food often, but this fruit and nut bar can barely be considered packaged. It has no added sugar, no fake sweeteners, no preservatives, no weird colors or additive. The Larabar is basically a medley of fruits, nuts and/or vegetables and maybe a pinch of sea salt. Did I mention it is absolutely delicious?

I haven't tried all of the flavors, but the Peanut Butter "Cookie" is my favorite thus far. It has made from  dates, peanuts and sea salts. You read that right. Three ingredients. Absolutely nothing else! It's no cookie, but it is a naturally sweet and savory snack.

A 16 count of Larabar can be purchased on larabarstore.com for a little over $25. It's a little pricey, but that is a good price for natural food and convenience nowadays. Alternatively, you can make your own bar with dates and whichever nut or veggie/fruit you like, but I think I would gladly pay for a few packaged bars to keep around. I'm not big on eating snack bars, but the Larabar is one I am very glad to keep around, even on any restricted diet.

A Larabar is approximately 200 calories. It is a great workout snack or just something to have in your bag for the hungry days. I keep one in my gym bag for added energy in a hurry.
